Research by Alma Career Croatia shows that every tenth person was late for work because they watched a World Cup 2026 match the previous evening. The Croatian national team lost 2-1 to Portugal in their last game (2026-07-02) and currently sits fourth in the table.

According to the survey, nine percent of respondents admitted to being late for work because of watching World Cup matches. An additional five percent took a day off or annual leave to follow the tournament. Most fans, however, manage to maintain work discipline, with 45 percent stating they function normally at work.

41 percent of respondents said they do not follow the World Cup. Some simply aren’t interested in football, others find the match times too late, while some only followed the tournament when Croatia was still in contention.
